Tiger’s Eye – David Ellis Crystals Encyclopedia
Origin – the place or situation from which something comes, the beginning of something’s existence, the point from which it starts out, the thing from which it is ultimately derived.
Tiger’s Eye is a fibrous quartz mineral where the quartz replaces the mineral croicidolite.
Croicidolite dissipates and exposes iron which then oxidises into limonite which then embeds as fibrous infusions into the quartz.
Tigers Eye is predomianantly found alongside Hawks Eye in metamorphic rock.
All crystals belong to a different group according to the basis of the relationships of their axes. There are 7 systems and 32 classes of symmetry. Tiger’s Eye crystals belong to the Trigonal system.
History – the past considered as a whole, the whole series of past events connected with someone or sometihing, a continuous typically chronological record of importance.
Tiger’s Eye has been recognised for centuries for its proposed healing and mythical properties. In ancient times Tiger’s Eye was used to protect against negative energy, bad luck and evil curses. It is also given to children as a protection stone against illness and a promoter of fun.
The main source of Tiger’s Eye can be found in South Africa however deposits are sourced in locations throughout the world which includes US, India, Burma Nambia and Australia among others.
The crystal is widely used in jewellery and for other types of ornamentation.
Specification – the act of describing or identifying something precisely, a detailed description of the design and materials used to make something.
Tiger’s Eye has a fibrous fracture with an opaque transparency. It has a moderately light density and a silky luster. It is a hard stone that measures 6.5-7 on the mohs scale rating.
It’s hardness makes it a popular stone for cutting and setting in jewellery and also in carvings and ornamentation.
Varieties – a number or range of things of the same general class that are different or distinct in character or quality.
Tiger’s Eye is a variety of quartz whith a fibrous limonite infusion. A similar variety is Hawks Eye which is a silicified blue variant.
Esoteric Attributes – a quality or feature as characteristic of or possed by something.
Crystals by their very nature are able to receive and focus energy in different ways. Their molecular structure enables them to be used to amplify and convert energy and hence crystals have been used for centuries to aid healing and transmute energy both in the metaphysical and physical world.
Because each crystal family has different formational backgrounds, each also has different vibrationalfrequencies that can be harnesed and used for specific purposes. Each therefore have specific qualities that can be used to help a person heal on the many different levels of their being.
The following is a list of healing attributes associated with Tiger’s Eye crystals.
Mental:Tiger’s Eye promotes a heightened awareness of the senses and allows for clarity of insight on experiences that are happening quickly.
Emotional:Tiger’s Eye enables strengthened mental coping mechanisms against stress and the dealing of external occurances. It allows the mind to make sense of the wider picture of things as they happen.
