The Progression to Positivity – Unlock your inner Potential

Stress: Help or Hindrance?

Stress is a natural instinct that exists as a bodily reaction to difficult situations as they may occur.

Low level stress can actually assist in the enhancement of a fulfilling lifestyle. However, as stress levels increase; so do the stress hormones such as cortisol. Therefore this creates an increase in blood sugars and also suppresses the immune system. Furthermore epinephrine (known as adrenaline) promotes the body’s ‘Freeze, Fight or Flight’ mode.

These harmful hormones compound stress. Consequently an hour of stress requires a day of relaxation. These hormones can cause the body to react in an extremely negative way. In addition, this negative stress can disrupt everyday living. Most of all they contribute to a variety of disorders and disease.

Stress Reaction

Stress on an extreme level can manifest in bodily reactions. These have the ability to debilitate on both a personal and also a professional level. Therefore, typical physiological and psychological disorders brought on by stress include:

  • Anxiety
  • Chronic Headaches
  • Depression
  • Withdrawal Symptoms
  • Nausea
  • Phobias
  • Blood Pressure
  • Heart Impairment
  • Weight Gain
  • Weight Loss

There are multitudes of ways in which stress can manifest itself and stress management provides a way to alleviate these to enable a more positive lifestyle.

Managing Stress with David Ellis

David uses more than the popular MBSR, whereas this methodology is of enormous benefit, but David feels it more important to find the root cause of the issue and then manage both the issue and the stress at the same time. By approaching Stress in this way, it diminishes the triggers and recurrence of the stress episodes.

He has created a unique program for stress reduction, PMSDtm. Positive Mind Stress Reduction. The first consultation with David is ultimately a fact finding process where David will identify specific needs and the techniques required for resolution. David uses exploratory discussion to identify the issues and root cause of those issues. From this exploration, he can prepare a program that will include modalities such as consultation, hypnosis, relaxation, meditation, communing with nature,  and also simple PNF stretch exercises to alleviate stress anxiety.
